NORTH COAST KILLERS (vinyl)

Description

Recorded in three days, WOLFONI's new album is a sonic snapshot of what this band offers on stage: music rooted in rockabilly, but enriched with blues-rock influences. While Clément Palant, the drummer, sings the famous 'Riot In Cell Block #9' originally performed by The Coasters in the 50s and dynamited by Dr Feelgood 25 years later, Gil Riot, the guitarist, lends his voice to rock'n'roll tunes created by the band: 'I Won't Cry Over It' and 'My Shoes and Me', as well as timeless classics from the 40s, 50s, and 80s: Delmore Brothers (Blues Stay Away From Me), Charlie Rich (Lonely Weekends), and the excellent British band Restless (Ice Cold). He then spices up the album with an original and resolutely 'twangy' instrumental composition of his own: 'Mandrake'. Mister Tof, the trio's double bassist, proves that true good things are timeless by interpreting songs spanning several decades of rock'n'roll: 'Primitive' by The Groupies, 'Devil and Miss Jones' by Mike Ness, the astonishing 'Tornado' by The Jiants, as well as 'Makin' Monsters For My Friends' by The Ramones, all put through the WOLFONI grinder... The rhythm section, formed by energetic and woody drums, coupled with a swinging and generous double bass, beautifully supports an electric guitar, nourished by the syrup of pioneers, heir to a sacred lineage of rockers, from Carl Perkins to Link Wray... The three musicians of WOLFONI, friendly pirates from the northern coast of Brittany, offer an album that reflects them: rock, swaggering, edgy, and danceable. WOLFONI is a true trio, with no single leader; each member takes a turn at lead vocals, backed by the harmonies of the other two. The show is electric, danceable, unpretentious, fun, and timeless: the drums roll, the double bass swings-rocks, and the guitar blazes. Their second album, which will soon be released on the Rennes-based label Beast Records, is faithful to their live performances. In a painfully disturbed world, the members of WOLFONI are determined to eradicate boredom and rock the house, which, in a peaceful way, makes them killers of the northern coast.
