Following numerous live performances and two albums, here is the third album from the musical collaboration of esteemed vibraphonist Wolfgang Lackerschmid and legendary trumpeter Chet Baker.
Recorded in August 1987, this expansive album features vast musical landscapes, from poignant ballads to robust Latin rhythms, building on their previous Dot Time releases, Quintet Sessions 1979 and Ballads for Two.
On Welcome Back, Baker is in top form. Appearing particularly sensitive, Baker has rarely been observed in such a relaxed mood. The studio atmosphere with an open fireplace surely contributed to this setting - in fact, listeners can hear the crackling of burning wood on some tracks. The compositions are lyrical and blend well with a renowned and gentle performance, although there are no vocal performances here.
