The mystical Californian Wilburn Burchette, a mail-order seller, first made a name for himself through his ads, hidden in the back pages of Fate Magazine, Beyond Reality, and Gnostica News. He offered his seven-part "Psychic Meditation Course," printed on a board, designed to teach how to listen to music. To accompany his lessons, Burchette sold a series of instrumental records for guitar and electronic devices, adorned with hand-drawn covers, and containing listening instructions from the Master himself. From the age of twelve, Burchette was fascinated by the parapsychological, devoting as much time to reading works on the foundations of Tibetan mysticism as to practicing the guitar, whose vibrations he used to create images and sound patterns. After teaching classical guitar for a time, Master Wilburn Burchette released seven albums over the seven years between 1971 and 1977, before abruptly burning and discarding everything related to his musical explorations.
