Why the Eye is an experimental masked quartet from Brussels that propels bodies into a trance during their live performances. All instruments are homemade and played in real-time, without loops or sequencers. Fans of The Residents, Société Étrange, Autechre, Boards Of Canada, The Meridian Brothers, and Fulu Miziki could easily relate to their sound. Describing their music as "Prehistoric Techno," Why the Eye is set to release their new album 'Inspirex' on October 4 via Exag Records. Starting with the nervous 'JNSP', the vindictive invocation 'La Machine' is a loud and abstract experience with a deep desire to free us from daily political confinement, while the raw 'Où cours-je' explodes into a wild rage of disorder and chaos. At the heart of each track are the DIY instruments that band member DjP (Jean Paul Domb) has assembled over the years, some directly inspired by African sanzas. With names like 'radiocaphone' and 'castabignettes', the instruments are cleverly connected to various effect pedals and are the heartbeat of Why the Eye. Elsewhere, the album's title track reveals a lively rhythmic quality with nervous sounds, while 'Prairies' and 'Animal' are delivered in a tribal style with a deeply rooted punk ethos.
