Ever since they wrote "Light Upon The Lake" in 2014, the members of WHITNEY have been trying to make the kind of songs they would have been jealous of if they hadn't been there first. 'You've Got A Woman', released on the B-side of the Dutch psych-pop duo Lion's 1975 single, is precisely one of those songs. "As soon as I heard it, I thought I would have loved to have written the vocal melodies, it's so captivating and powerful," says drummer Julien Ehrlich. WHITNEY's version is rich, spontaneous, and full of groove. It features Will Miller's almost trademark brass, wandering into guitarist Max Kakacek's playing. "It's quite an evil sound for us," Julien explains. "We were in a small room, which adds to it." The room in question is Thump's studio in Brooklyn, New York, where WHITNEY had to move due to an emergency. "We were supposed to record with Jacob Portrait, who mixed both tracks, but his building caught fire." Even though the context seems very stressful, it actually helped bring serenity to the composition of WHITNEY's songs.
