"An Electric Storm" is the most famous work of the British collective White Noise, a group of experimental electronic music composed of virtuoso knob-twiddlers and tape splicers. Although it did not achieve much success upon its initial release, the album is now considered an important and influential record in the development of electronic music. But beyond its historical significance, the harmonic progressions, among other elements, are by no means taken for granted, and they reference much of the baroque and classical composition in general. This album was obviously a labor of love, taking a whole year to complete seven incredible songs before sampling technology, synthesizers, and digital equipment became readily available. There is also chaotic humor at play in the feverish "Here Come the Fleas," which contains more edits in two minutes than the entirety of Sgt. Pepper's. Yet, it is the retro-futuristic textures that still most capture the ear.
