In questioning the impact we have on the world around us, Lawrence English and Werner Dafeldecker, a key figure in the Austrian scene, extend the hallucinatory universe of "Tropic of Capricorn" (2023) with a new selection of reworked field recordings and processed drones, drawing this time their inspiration from the tides and waterways around the world. The result is a denser and more active album than its predecessor, enriching its archives of subtly treated 'Environments' style with more ethereal electronic sounds that place us in the world of Dafeldecker and English, physically and philosophically. One can hear what this might mean on the opening track, which the duo meticulously builds from droplets of water, long gong-like resonances, and unsettling bursts of noise that could be vehicles rushing in the distance or time slipping away. The third segment is even deeper, a net mass of rain sounds, cavernous noises, and swirling oscillators that seem to follow the precipitation at the beginning, ringing through the atmosphere like birds, or perhaps thunderclaps? It’s not really disturbing but it’s something that makes you think, an illusory experience that forces you to consider the sounds you are listening to - and their sources.
