For nearly ten years, Wendy Eisenberg has established herself as an essential figure in the independent music scene, with a body of work that is exceptionally rich and inventive. A singer-songwriter, improviser, and virtuoso guitarist, her art constantly explores new horizons, from art-rock to jazz, including dazzling free improvisation and eloquent folk. Brilliant albums like Auto (2020) and Viewfinder (2024), true free-jazz masterpieces, testify to her ambition. After five years of experimentation within various groups, musical genres, and creative challenges, and following a period of intense introspection akin to a true catharsis, Eisenberg reaches an important milestone. Her folk songs, both poetic and bold, embody her most accomplished vision to date. These songs began to take shape in 2020, when Eisenberg left western Massachusetts (where she had lived for a few years after studying at the New England Conservatory in Boston) to settle in Brooklyn. Nostalgic for the rural atmosphere of her hometown, Eisenberg turned to the warm sounds of country and folk. "These are authentically folk songs," Eisenberg explains about her album. "The production aims less to explore the possibilities of the guitar than to embrace the intrinsic strangeness of the languages it has used for a century and a half." On Wendy Eisenberg, the artist creates her own universe with a close circle of friends and long-time collaborators – including bassist Trevor Dunn, drummer Ryan Sawyer, and co-producer Mari Rubio (more eaze), who handled the pedal steel, synthesizers, and string arrangements – often recording at Eisenberg's place and bringing a beautiful texture to every note. "I was finally surrounded by people who accept me as I am," Eisenberg confides. "Many of the songs on this album were written in this new state of mind. I wanted it to be incredibly comforting, as it describes profound changes in my understanding and self-esteem. It's an album of relief."
