For their new album, We Insist! wanted to move away from technical displays but fill their music with more melodies, vocals, and choirs. Fans of complex structures, odd rhythms, or Eric Martin's guitar assaults shouldn't worry; these elements are still very much present. They are even abundant, but their virtuosity takes a backseat, serving songs made more accessible to everyone. In the same vein, new sounds and instruments enrich the album: synths, mandolin, mellotron, strings, brass, etc. As with each of their releases, We Insist! reinvents itself, surprises, and impresses, notably carried by their incredible drummer/vocalist Etienne Gaillochet. "Wax and Wane," an unclassifiable super-production, continues the flawless journey of this band that has become a benchmark in the vast family of alternative rock.
