Way Dynamic, the solo project of Dylan Young, originally from Melbourne, releases internationally Massive Shoe, a third album that is both playful and discreet, bright and rich in textures. Massive Shoe navigates between minimalist folk-pop, art rock, and baroque pop. The album is produced and mostly performed by Dylan, who also plays in the Australian bands Cool Sounds and Good Morning, and has drummed for Snowy Band and Kankawa Nagarra. It is tempting to compare these songs to the great works of the past. His falsetto, sense of harmonies, and the finesse of his arrangements seem timeless. Yet, something in his writing and the way he formulates things feels deeply contemporary. It is not insignificant that Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee described "Miffed It" as her "favorite song in a long time." Katie Crutchfield, MJ Lenderman, This Is Lorelei, and Black Country, New Road have all invited Way Dynamic on tour, while Elton John stated that he simply couldn't stop listening to "Ibiza"! Dylan Young's songs are unafraid of sensitivity, nor do they shy away from the absurd or humor. Throughout the tracks, he can just as easily imagine a journey through space as sincerely lament a misunderstanding. On "I Was the Dancer," he asks: "Can we walk and talk as well?" an invitation to which one immediately wants to respond yes.
