Public Works and Utilities/Transparent Red & Black Half & Half Vinyl

Description

Warrington-Runcorn’s sixth album continues to explore new towns and the disappearance of the post-war consensus. This time, Gordon Chapman-Fox turns his gaze to our public services, stripped of funding or privatized since 1980. “In hindsight, it seems ridiculous that a developed country packed up and sold off vital infrastructure like electricity, water, or the rail network,” says Gordon. “Forty years later, all these vital industries are barely functioning. Their main role now is to siphon money from us and put it into the well-lined pockets of shareholders.” Gordon’s anger continues to fuel his desire to make Warrington-Runcorn a testament to the present, rather than an exercise in rose-tinted nostalgia. The People Matter, as the lone track on side B shows. “This album is largely the result of my live shows,” says Gordon. “Many of these tracks were conceived to be performed live, and you’ve probably heard quite a few of them if you saw me in concert last year.” Some tracks have a certain rawness, not to mention an almost rhythmic, danceable side. The atmosphere is no less intense than on the previous albums, but it blends with an irresistible urge to make you move.
