Album Collection 1977-1980

Description

Protégé of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, songwriter for Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris, and quasi-bandmate of the Eagles and Jackson Browne, Walter Egan, whose career now spans six decades, may have defined what it means to be a "songwriter's songwriter." If his 1978 hit, "Magnet and Steel," which charted in the US Top 10, became his signature, appearing in films such as Boogie Nights and This is 40, and if his follow-up single, "Hot Summer Nights," was covered by artists in France, Denmark and Japan, and sampled by Dr. Dre for Eminem's 2009 single "We Made You," Egan's catalog is a diverse body of work, characterized above all by his willingness to follow his creative instinct. Between 1977 and 1980, Egan recorded four studio albums for Columbia Records in the United States. Gathered here for the first time in "The Album Collection 1977-1980," these albums - "Fundamental Roll," "Hi Fi," "Not Shy," and "The Last Stroll" - bear witness to the exceptional talent of an extraordinary songwriter and musician, at the peak of his craft. Each one brings together the cream of the musicians and producers from the golden age of the Los Angeles music scene, while "Fundamental Roll" was entirely produced by Lindsey Buckingham. As for the vocal arrangements, they are signed by Stevie Nicks, and both provide backing vocals at the precise moment when Fleetwood Mac's career was exploding with "Rumours." Presented here in a deluxe 7-inch 4-CD box set with a 12-page illustrated booklet, the liner notes were written by respected music critic Jason Draper ("Prince: Chaos and Disorder," "Led Zeppelin Revealed," "Only The Good Die Young") based on a new interview with Walter Egan reflecting on his work and career.
