The Arsonist

Description

Since its emergence from the depths of the American South, WAILIN STORMS has ignited crowds with its loud, bluesy explosions of gothic rock. Bolstered by rave reviews from critics and public support, the band fans the flames with unbridled fervor on its fifth album, the first on Season of Mist. At the heart of the darkness of the outside world, 'The Arsonist' burns with all our deepest desires. 'The Arsonist' draws its roots from WAILIN STORMS' past. As a child, singer Justin Storms was so fascinated by fire that he almost accidentally reduced the family home to ashes. Old folk songs, Baptist hymns, Flannery O'Connor, and other influences are brought back to light with force and intensity. Recorded analog by Matt Talbott of Hum, the album revives the band's roots in raw, uncompromising blues punk. The opening track, "Dead End," takes a Lynchian turn as its agony leads into a waking nightmare. Despite a heavy and oppressive atmosphere, 'The Arsonist' is steeped in very real anxieties. "You Never Answered" is a deafening call to put down our phones and answer the call of the night. The album rebels against the traps of everyday life and endless wars, but even in its most chilling moments, WAILIN STORMS is driven by a need for connection. "Like the wind controls the sea," sings Storms on the progressively intense title track. "You always had a hold on me," as the band is overwhelmed by the burning pangs of love, it howls like the hounds of hell. With 'The Arsonist', WAILIN STORMS delivers a fiery baptism of gothic rock. For fans of 16 HORSEPOWER, DANZIG, NICK CAVE, YOUNG WIDOWS.
