The Wreck

Description

Genealogy buffs will be able to trace their past or current passage through Aêroflôt, Fléau, Franco Divine, Year Of No Light... and more. They play analog synthesizers, like an electro-pop band, which they plug into powerful amplifiers, like a rock band. Raised on the most hardcore concerts in the most obscure clubs, free parties, post-punk vinyls, and the second wave of Scandinavian black metal, the two members of VvvV no longer hesitate to mix the constituent universes of their vast culture: pop, industrial, new wave, shoegaze, krautrock, dub, clubbing, film music...On this album, The Wreck, for example, we start from an electro/cold base on "Mirrors," then evolve towards cosmic refrains that remind me of Yeti Lane, another talented French band that readily uses machines. There is also, here and further on, a touch of psychedelia and shoegaze detours. So, as we can see, or more precisely hear, VvvV casts a very wide net.
