Vers 2024, Vorhex Angel appeared as if by magic: no presence on social media, no distinct identity, their name appearing here and there on posters in Nashville or New Orleans. The curious who attended their concerts could be confronted with a multitude of unexpected and bewildering experiences: elaborate stage sets, strobe lights (or, conversely, total darkness), flaming objects, and even treats to ingest before the show. Their music, like the mystery surrounding them, was powerful, unrestrained, and visceral as desired. While the two live albums of the band and their first opus, Heavenly, are undeniably visceral, Drain, their successor, is certainly their cerebral offering. Its seven tracks accompany the listener from morning to night, an experimental double album overflowing with grand guitar solos, soaring drone excursions, and moments of striking intensity. For the first time, Vorhex Angel abandons its impactful sonic assault for darker and more dramatic territories. The band (composed of brothers Jake and Jamin Orrall from JEFF the Brotherhood and Kunal Prakash from Silver Synthetic) pushes the boundaries of the Vorhex Angel concept, inviting new musicians to join them, thus taking more risks for an even more rewarding result.
