Volturian's second effort is a truly inspired and elegant interpretation of the modern "female-fronted" metal model. It blends the gothic and melancholic feel of the exceptional debut album "Crimson" (2020) with an even more refined pop vein and some subtle additional electronic layers. Each song on "Red Dragon" showcases a very contemporary sound, intriguing arrangements, and a charming sonic dynamic, not to mention the always masterful writing of Federico Mondelli. Carried by the warm performance of frontwoman Federica Lanna, inspired by the lyrics and aesthetics of "Red Dragon" by Thomas Harris (the novel that gave birth to the Hannibal Lecter myth) and the graphic novels of Alan Moore and Frank Miller.
