"FlamenKora", a multicultural album between Mandé African, Flamenco, and Jazz, all by a high-profile cast!
Motéma Music, which celebrates its 20th year as one of the most important jazz/world labels in the world, presents "FlamenKora", the debut album of a new trio that unites the Mandé music of West Africa with authentic Spanish flamenco guitar and American and European jazz trumpet to create a unique transglobal collaboration.
FlamenKora first took root during the pandemic lockdown periods, when renowned trumpeter and composer Volker Goetze immersed himself in writing sessions while virtually studying with the highly esteemed Madrid flamenco maestro Enrique Vargas (Les Paul, Paco De Lucia). Goetze had met Alejandro Moreno at Theatro Flamenco Madrid in 2018, and the two later performed together in Salzburg, Austria, at the "Zwischenräume" festival (2020). Excited by how the Mandé and flamenco traditions effortlessly and beautifully dance together, Volker invited Alejandro to join the duo for a residency at the Jazz & The City festival (Salzburg), where they played to a sold-out audience and received ovations. The magic of their collaboration being evident, the group found time to record FlamenKora in Cologne in March 2022.
