PALACES (vinyl)

Description

AFRICAN ELECTRIC MUSICBorn as a saxophone/drum duo in Berlin in 2009, Electric Vocuhila became an electric quartet in 2011. They blend rhythms inspired by various African urban music styles, such as Congolese sebene and Malagasy tsapiky, with an orchestral approach rooted in jazz, particularly Ornette Coleman's harmolodic music. Built on a stubborn yet ever-shifting rhythmic foundation, alternately hypnotic and frantic, their music freely develops around repetitive motifs. Seeking both melodic concision and a form of overflow or trance, the quartet creates extended sequences of dazzling themes, winding phrases, and sharp, explosive riffs. A joyful and urgent call to dance. "The strange and delightful group Electric Vocuhila. These musicians come from jazz, free-jazz in particular, and play African music as if it were rock. Contemporary African music, with a predilection for Malagasy tsapiky: electric guitar whirls and wild rhythms, creating a form of trance music very close to the best rock, indeed." --- LES INROCKS ---
