'A New Form of Beauty' (1981) by Virgin Prunes includes the tracks from the first 4 parts of what was a 5-part project. Part 1 was a 45 rpm single, part 2 a 10" record and part 3 a 12" record, recorded between July and October 81. The 4th part, "Din Glorious", released as an audio cassette, was a live recording made on 8 November 1981 at the Douglas Hyde Gallery in Dublin. The 5th part was to be a film of the "performance, exhibition, event" held at the Douglas Hyde Gallery on 7 and 8 November 1981. This deluxe edition includes the four remastered parts. Virgin Prunes were the masters of strangeness, juxtaposing nightmares with lullabies, beauty with cruelty, combining sweet voice and speech with the anguished laments of purgatory itself. This first album powerfully mapped out that territory. Its themes ranged from sad tales of unrequited love, frustrated sexuality, morbid eroticism and wasted youth, to longings for faraway dream countries juxtaposed with macabre visions of dystopian societies, dominated by dark forces and where demons run wild.
