Emile Parisien and Vincent Peirani, respectively the Django Reinhardt Prize for Best Musician of the Year 2012 and 2013, meet for an unprecedented duo on record that lives up to all its promises. Let's give them the floor: "Our meeting dates back to November 2009, Daniel Humair invited us to share the stage alongside him. Following this concert, he decided to create his quartet Sweet & Sour, 'our' quartet as he likes to emphasize. It has been almost three years now that we have been traveling the roads with this orchestra. Strong bonds have been woven, especially between the two of us. Indeed, the space that Daniel allows us has enabled us to 'find' each other both musically and humanly. Following these quartet concerts, many people came to ask us if we played together as a duo. In 2012, Sweet & Sour was invited to play at the Jarasum Jazz Festival in South Korea. Jae Jin In, the festival director, also suggested that we play as a duo in a club. It was on this occasion that we had our first concert and that the machine got started. Siggi Loch, the head of ACT, wanted to push this story and asked us to record together for him. At that moment, we already had a repertoire that we had had the opportunity to play once or twice after Korea. While being aware of that, he suggested we draw from the repertoire of Sydney Bechet, the one through whom he discovered jazz. Quite a symbol! Far from being specialists of Bechet, we immersed ourselves in his work which is truly important, immense, even endless!!! From these few months of investigations came out a few pieces that we tried to adapt to the duo and its story. Thanks to these songs, we were able to broaden our sound palette, tell other stories. The creation of this repertoire plunged us into a state of euphoria, lightness, mixing our influences ranging from popular music to composers of the early 20th century, passing through jazz of course or even world music. All these elements combined echoed a state of mind, a time when people had fun, were carefree, curious, happy to discover new things. In other words: The Belle Époque!"
