For his third album, Eigengrau, young German pianist Vincent Meissner further refines the unique language of his trio. Alongside Josef Zeimetz (double bass) and Henri Reichmann (drums), he presents a jazz that is at once introspective, vibrant, and luminous, inspired by The Bad Plus, Esbjörn Svensson, and his mentor Michael Wollny. In the studio, the trio favors refinement: each note becomes an exploration, each piece a form of sensory dialogue. Eigengrau – "the color of black behind closed eyelids" – evokes suggestive and open music that paints a different picture for each listener. Nine meticulously crafted, melodic, hypnotic tracks.
