FINIS TERRAE

Description

New album by Vincent Courtois: an original soundtrack for an unprecedented orchestra. Powerfully evocative, Vincent Courtois's music has always maintained a special relationship with imagery, whether imagined or fantasized. After revealing his intimate cinematography on the album Bandes originales, he decides to push the envelope further by composing his first score for a silent film, and not just any film: Finis terrae (1929), a manifesto of Jean Epstein's Breton period. To evoke the poetic, fantastic, and wonderful atmosphere of this marine poem, the cellist has envisioned an atypical instrumentation, where the deep and mid frequencies of the cello, bassoon, and tenor saxophone intertwine with the "trad" colors of the accordion, punctuated by a subtly nuanced drum. Soon freeing itself from the images that gave it birth, the music now sails by and for itself, inviting each listener to project their own inner film onto it.
