Meet ME at the Movies

Description

Viktoria Tolstoy’s voice is intriguing, bittersweet, and has a true sense of theatricality. This is not surprising for the Russo-Swedish artist, who admits, “I’ve always been a huge film fan.” And that’s why, three years after recording “A Moment Of Now,” she turns to film music, taking us on a journey through eras, directors, but above all, her own cinematic universe. The references are numerous: from “As Time Goes By” from Casablanca to Björk’s “New World” from Dancer In The Dark, and “Calling You” from Bagdad Café, the list is long. Charlie Chaplin, Seal, or Sarah McLachlan are among the many artists Tolstoy has covered, bringing her unique touch to each.Although fascinated by the large orchestras of Hollywood film scores, she chose to record here with a guitar, bass, and drums. With the contribution of the famous Swedish jazz musician Nils Landgren (who even sings with her on “Love Song For A Vampire”) as producer, Viktoria Tolstoy realizes her dream and introduces us to the films that excite and inspire her. She invites us to the cinema, and it is an honor and a privilege to accept. The album is produced by Nils Landgren, who also appears on several tracks alongside Iiro Rantala.
