Yeleen Kura

Description

Victor died on September 21, 2015 in Bobo Dioulasso, during the coup d'état in Burkina Faso. The hospital he was heading to for treatment of a malaria attack was closed... His third album was supposed to be released a few days later; he never had time to sing it on stage. Celebrating his music and his memory once again, ten years after his sudden disappearance, is the simple ambition of this new record to be released on Chapa Blues, his historic label. Among the unreleased tracks on side A are Djilon, a reggae from Abidjan; Sira, a sunny and solitary blues; Ambideu, a pop crooner melody transformed here into an elegant cello-and-voice piece; Mousso mina mousso, a love song to offer during a djandjoba; and Bara, a choral encouragement to the workers of Burkina Faso. These songs had remained in the studio before Victor's passing. The talented musicians Clément Petit, Alex Finkin, and Max "Blundetto" Guiguet completed them for this record. On side B, we find the energy and sincerity of Victor's concerts with his musicians, featuring excerpts from the concert organized on May 19, 2009 by the Théâtre de la ville de Rouen. Victor opens his performance with Labanko, a track never recorded in the studio, followed by several classics including the essential Djon Maya in a bluesier version than ever, carried by the magical guitar of Issouf Diabaté. Unforgettable memories for his musicians as well as for all those who had the chance to applaud him in concert.
