Vanishing Twin continues its experimental musical exploration with Afternoon X, an album designed with a harmonious balance between humor and rigor, where each band member takes on the role of multi-instrumentalist, prioritizing the process over the result. Now composed of Cathy Lucas (singer and multi-instrumentalist), drummer Valentina Magaletti (Holy Tongue, Tomaga, Moin), and bassist Susumu Mukai (Zongamin), the band has forged a hypnotic sound that blends minimalism, kosmische, post-punk, and dreamy psychedelic pop. With eight abstract and immersive tracks, built from a constellation of instruments, samples, and unique sounds, the album alternates between catchy grooves like the title track, the intense minimalism of Subito, and ambitious pieces like The Down Below and Lazy Garden, which unfold a psychedelic avant-garde reminiscent of David Axelrod and Scott Walker.
