Van Halen II is the second album by the American hard rock band Van Halen. It was originally released on March 23, 1979, on Warner Bros. Records and was produced by Ted Templeman. Only one track ("Dance the Night Away") was composed in the studio; all the others dated from the period when the band still played in clubs and were performed and refined during the 1978 tour. The album was recorded almost live with very few overdubs. Like the first album, Van Halen II achieved phenomenal success, particularly thanks to the tracks "Dance the Night Away" and "Beautiful Girls," which entered the Billboard Hot 100. The album was certified multiple times platinum or gold.
