Only God Was Above Us

Description

After the success of their last four projects and 4 Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year in 2020, Vampire Weekend present their new album Only God Was Above Us. Largely inspired by New York and recorded all over the world (NY, LA, London, Tokyo), the album is, according to singer Ezra Koenig, his own version of “Dark Side of the Moon meeting Paul's Boutique.” It was produced by Ezra Koenig and his longtime collaborator Ariel Rechtshaid. Only God Was Above Us evokes universal themes: the desire to question the world we live in, the search for a peace that can only be found through acceptance. The album is at once as direct and complex as anything the band has released so far, as beautiful and melodic as ever, and shows Vampire Weekend at their best. The title is taken directly from the album cover, which is a photo taken by photographer Steven Siegel in a ghost subway station in New Jersey in 1988.
