Only God Was Above Us

Description

After the success of their last four projects and 4 Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year in 2020, the band Vampire Weekend presents their new opus, Only God Was Above Us. Largely inspired by New York and recorded around the world (NY, LA, London, Tokyo), the album is, according to singer Ezra Koenig, his own version of "Dark Side of the Moon meets Paul's Boutique." It was produced by Ezra Koenig and his longtime collaborator Ariel Rechtshaid. Only God Was Above Us evokes universal themes: the desire to question the world we live in, the search for a peace that can only be found through acceptance. The album is as direct and complex as anything the band has released to date, as beautiful and melodic as ever, and shows Vampire Weekend at their best. The title is taken directly from the album cover, which is a photo taken by photographer Steven Siegel in an abandoned New Jersey subway station in 1988.
