Black Bile

Description

Black Bile compiles some of the most radiant and sanguine music from Umberto to date. The solo work of Los Angeles-based composer Matt Hill draws heavily from the world of cinema, creating immersive narratives and rich atmospheres using only sound. An active composer for film and television, he recently scored Jerry Pyle's film Loveseat (2022) (the soundtrack was released in 2023). Other recent music includes the thriller Archenemy, directed in 2020 by the producers of the cult classic Mandy. Inspired by the Greek theory of the "four humors," an ancient medical theory linking the inner workings of the human body to the elements. "Black bile" specifically associates feelings of melancholy with autumn. Hill's celestial compositions are an autumnal soundtrack that conveys beauty, nostalgia, reflection, and comfort.
