Uèle Lamore has always sought to explore the infinite possibilities that music offers. She has also long been fascinated by the joy that it can bring. These two elements have fueled the curiosity and creativity of the 27-year-old Franco-American artist as she skillfully wove her love for jazz, rock, indie, hip-hop, trip hop, and classical music while leading the London Contemporary Orchestra (LCO), experimenting with sounds produced by AI, and exploring modular, electronic, and synthetic elements. This is where the title of her debut solo album, LOOM, takes on its full meaning. “I wanted to present different ways of approaching sounds and musical genres,” she says about the genesis of the record. “And it simply comes from the fact of loving music.” Originally, LOOM was conceived in 2019 as a series of raw electro ambient sketches. But after Covid-19 locked most people at home, Lamore revisited her original recordings and decided to rework them. Thus, with the eventual return of concerts in mind, the terms “fun” and “accessible” became her watchwords. “I really wanted a record that would be great to play live, as a band, and that could really speak to as many people as possible,” she says about the changes. “And I needed to do something organic.” The guitar has always been her first love, so she began by sprinkling the 11 tracks of LOOM with guitar passages. This then led her to add bass and drum lines, and finally string instruments. A common theme throughout the project is contrast - between sounds, textures, and emotions. It is a combination of three elements that makes LOOM such a fascinating work to listen to: the emphasis on sound design and production, a distinct sense of storytelling, and a perfect mastery of composition.
