The Marseille trio ubaq, composed of Antoine Carletto (Bass), Lucas Schemidt (Guitar) and Antoine Saussol (Drums), has grown together since adolescence, both personally and musically. Winners of the Jazz à Vienne competition in 2025, they release their first album, Night WIP, following their EP 20bis (2024). Their musical universe, inspired by the idea of "ubac" (the shady side of a mountain), is characterized by a nocturnal, melancholic yet luminous atmosphere, where they explore deep emotions without falling into cliché. Their approach is based on strong complicity and a search for artistic sincerity. The album is enriched by collaborations, notably with singer Talin on the track "Regarding Others," which questions our relationship with others and the world. Other pieces reflect their personal experiences, such as "Proud," a tribute to Lucas Schemidt's late mother, or "Flayosc" with trombonist Jules Regard. Ultimately, this first album offers an introspective exploration blending unease and solace, where melody becomes a vehicle for emotion and brotherhood.
