Description

Self-taught musicologist and sample collagist, U brought his archivist's eye to the crucible of 80s post-punk with his debut EP Life Isn't A Fountain? on Lex. He follows this with an experimental exploration of regional identity with ARCHENFIELD, a deeply personal collection of ambient music and found sounds that questions the relationship between geographic space and sonic histories. To build this record, U drew from a rich reserve of recorded materials linked to the region. With a nod to traditional music, he extracts samples from these recordings to create superb atmospheric pieces, often interwoven with meticulously researched excerpts, to compose a moving reflection on local history and, more broadly, on how we interact with English folklore today.
