At the head of his quartet composed of pianist Nitai Hershkovits, double bassist Petros Klampanis and a new addition to the group, drummer Cyrano Almeida, Oded Tzur continues with My Prophet. The singular musical path he embarked on in his previous records, developing through a great diversity of forms of expression a jazz that is all fluidity. Further deepening the meditative aspect of his extremely focused playing, the saxophonist here offers some of his most intense improvisations to date. The organic dimension of the quartet gives the music its unique character, each of the musicians bringing the singularity of his voice to a collective discourse capable of evoking just as much the paradoxical silence at the heart of the storm as of engaging in passionate surges of power. Hershkovits's voluble and fluid piano phrases envelop the incomparable sound of Oded's tenor saxophone while Klampanis, on double bass, provides the melodic, harmonic and rhythmic foundation of the whole, admirably supported by Almeida's drums. This third Oded album for ECM was recorded in the south of France under the artistic direction of Manfred Eicher.
