At the head of his quartet, composed of pianist Nitai Hershkovits, bassist Petros Klampanis, and a newcomer to the group, drummer Cyrano Almeida, Oded Tzur continues with 'My Prophet'. The singular musical path he has embarked on in his previous records, developing through a great diversity of forms of expression a jazz that is all fluidity. Deepening ever further the meditative aspect of his extremely concentrated playing, the saxophonist here offers some of his most intense improvisations to date. The organic dimension of the quartet gives the music its unique character, each musician bringing the singularity of their voice to a collective discourse capable both of evoking the paradoxical silence at the heart of the storm and of engaging in passionate surges of power. Hershkovits's voluble and fluid piano phrases envelop the incomparable sound of Oded's tenor saxophone, while Klampanis on bass provides the melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic foundation of the ensemble, admirably supported by Almeida's drumming. This third album by Oded for ECM was recorded in the south of France under the artistic direction of Manfred Eicher.
