From the opening track, "Can I Live," Precious Okoyomon's lyrics resonate like the beginning of a ritual, laying the groundwork for what follows. Echoes of New York's Black queer nightlife scene also permeate the energetic percussion of "Exorcise the Language of Domination," where Julianna Huxtable's spoken-word performance complements the music's various shifts in movement and tone. London-based SUUTOO contributes the album's sole musical collaboration on "B2B," a track born from sessions in McKenzie's New York studio, where the main goal was to connect and have fun—a respite from the constraints of daily life. The album closes with a double dose of emotion on "Effects of Resistance and Black Trans Masculine Experience." The first track highlights South African academic Khanyisile Mbongwa, who draws connections between Africa and the Black diaspora while looking toward the future and calling for a sense of community belonging. This final piece, an instrumental version of the track from the 2025 EP IMMIGRANT, offers a gentle and deeply moving conclusion to the album, a haven of peace and acceptance. This end-of-cycle tone is reflected in the cover photograph, which also echoes IMMIGRANT by finally revealing what was hidden: a portrait of the artist fully blossomed; a step toward true inner liberation.
