The enigmatic Tycho returns with a new album: Epoch, which concludes the trilogy that began in 2011 with Dive and was followed by Awake in 2014. Epoch sharpens the sonic aesthetic of Dive while drawing on the kinetic energy of Awake, exploring darker themes and new musical territories. Regarding the surprise release of the album today, Hansen shares: "I've never been excited about making an album and then waiting 4 months for its release. I like to be more connected to the people who listen to the music. There’s a kind of visceral fulfillment when you immediately share what you’ve just created; it’s a true satisfaction." He continues: "The album is freshly mastered. When people listen to it, it will be a month old. I believe that all art is forged by the state of the world at the time of its creation. I hope that listeners will feel it that way, as a musical reflection of the period we are currently going through." Epoch was produced and recorded by Hansen, primarily in his home studio in Berkeley, California. The album also results from a long-standing collaboration with Zac Brown, bassist and guitarist. Rory O'Connor is also featured on percussion. According to Hansen, the album's graphic design is as important as the music. He created all the visuals through his alias ISO50, through which he developed the very successful visual identity of the trilogy.
