Carter Tutti Plays Chris & Cosey

Description

The Carter Tutti duo is now tackling the Chris & Cosey of yesteryear, freshly separated from Throbbing Gristle, which they formed with Genesis P-Orridge and Peter Christopherson. They moved away from the stench of brutally raw industrial music to embrace the burgeoning electronic and synthetic sound. Between 1981 and 1993, the band released four albums on Rough Trade – including the immense *Songs Of Love & Lust* in 1984 and *Technø Primitiv* in 1985 – followed by four more on Play It Again Sam. The myth would long remain in collective memory, with Chris & Cosey becoming the ultimate reference for that gloomy, black-draped pop with icy melodies, which still rings out every night in a thousand dive bars across Europe. And it is precisely from this collection of incredibly dense tracks that the duo, rebranded as Carter Tutti in the early 2000s, decided to draw upon to create a new album, *Carter Tutti Plays Chris & Cosey*, set to be released on February 17th via Conspiracy International – a label founded by the duo themselves in 1982 to indulge their more experimental recording impulses. This approach is more or less similar to last year's, where the two partners remixed some of their masterpieces on the very logically named *Carter Tutti Remix Chris & Cosey*.
