In 2014, her third album *Nikki Nack* received rave reviews, notably for the undeniable single "Water Fountain," and Merrill Garbus went on to tour and perform at festivals worldwide, collaborating with renowned musicians such as David Byrne, Laurie Anderson, Yoko Ono, and Mavis Staples.
On this new album, the ambitions have not changed; in fact, they are doubly grander, as Tune-Yards officially presents itself as a duo: Garbus accompanied by her long-time collaborator Nate Brenner, who produced and co-wrote the album with her. Aided in production by Mikaelin "Blue" Bluespruce (Solange, Kendrick Lamar), the album was largely recorded at Tiny Telephone studio in Oakland and mastered in Harlem, New York by Dave Kutch (Jay Z, Chance The Rapper).
The 12 new tracks directly address serious issues such as racism, politics, feminism, and environmental crises. But beneath this avalanche of intense subjects, the album proves to be the group's most intuitive and engaging to date – an album that will inspire a lot of dancing, as is always the case with Tune-Yards!
