If you believe them, the members of 'Trunks' just get together because they miss each other. A band? A collective? Initially, it was a challenge from Jardin Moderne to celebrate its 5th anniversary: to create an ephemeral group. Trunks is so committed to the ephemeral that it's still here, twenty years later. The raw sensitivity of Laetitia, the guitar duo like a charged battery, Fromentin the aesthete and Marzano the expressionist, Régïs Boulard's global drumming—all that was missing was Daniel Paboeuf's tireless saxophone, who, we're told, came to "make more noise"—yeah, right! They all discreetly conceal their sophistication and high standards. Trunks is first and foremost a story of respect and friendship. Five characters searching, not for an author as some might say, but for a new emotion that only arises when they are together. A freedom conquered together. A problem: how, beyond words and declarations of intent, do they find the combination that makes your hair stand on end? The music is sharp like a mountain range tapering the horizon, made of contrasts, reliefs, flows, ascents and tensions, sometimes extreme. A tectonic process that sediments before bristling, in search of a dynamic where nothing is heard but intensity, beauty, adrenaline, and vertigo. Trunks' music is traced like a seismograph, like the cardiograph of beat writing—the choice of Kerouac's texts to adorn their first album was no accident. It's narrative, something is being told, but it's not 'The Famous Five': the story here doesn't rely on words, and in the end, there's no culprit. Obviously, it has no name, and neither 'noise', 'jazz', 'rock', nor 'pop' manage to define its boundaries. So what does it mean? Rimbaud, a beat poet, answered his mother: 'What it says, literally, and in every sense.' He had never read an episode of The Famous Five.
