Born from late harmonies, shared vocal memos, and a friendship based on mutual admiration, True Mountain Laurel is the supergroup formed by Haley Blais and Sam Lynch. Their first collection of songs, Angel So Bad, is a tender and dusty exploration of all the feelings that fall through the cracks. Equal parts dreamy folk and yearning country, Sam's poetic introspection and Haley's sharp lyrical intimacy blend into something sweeter, stranger, and entirely their own. The songs emerged from informal writing sessions between tours, melody exchanges over coffee, and end-of-day vocal demos. The title track is an ode to the often-overlooked virtues of gossip, celebrated for its role in human connection. "Tongue in cheek but sincere," as Blais puts it. "It crosses its fingers while telling the truth." Influenced by Gillian Welch, Lucinda Williams, and early 2000s Canadian songwriters, the project focuses less on genre and more on feeling. Acoustic guitars, brushed drums, pedal steel, and jangly piano support diary-like lyrics without being confessional. Warm, minimal, and a little rough around the edges.
