With Tiki Nation, Truckstop Tomahawk explores new territories at the edges of modern exotica. Created by Robert Kress, one of the two members of Kava Kon, the album approaches tiki not as mere nostalgia, but as a living and constantly evolving sound universe. The tracks wander freely through imaginary geographies: distant islands, half-forgotten myths, roadside rituals, and sun-drenched dream states, where vintage exotica meets resolutely modern compositions. Rather than settling for revisiting the codes of the mid-20th century, Tiki Nation reinvents them, incorporating cinematic arrangements, unexpected textures, and evocative titles of folklore, travel, and subtle surrealism. The result is music that is both free and exploratory, ideal for attentive listening, nighttime reverie, or immersion in unknown landscapes, a drink in hand. The central visual work of the album reinforces this atmosphere. The cover, "The Liberation of Pele," is a work by Catherine Robbins, a self-taught artist and long-time resident of the island of Hawaii. She created this oil painting in her studio nestled in the heart of the rainforest, just a few kilometers from the erupting summit of Kilauea. This proximity to a raw and elemental force reflects the album itself: beautiful, mysterious, and of contained intensity. "Tiki Nation" boldly asserts an ambition: exotic music liberated from the past, fully rooted in the present and resolutely looking towards unexplored horizons.
