In May, fans were treated to the first new music from Trentemøller since 2022. A new single, "A Different Light," featured an astonishing blend of prismatic space rock and folk. For those wondering if this heralds the release of a full-length album, the answer is yes, Dreamweaver will be released in September, on Friday the 13th.
With 10 tracks that traverse the many musical strengths of Trentemøller, Dreamweaver also represents an obvious artistic leap, exploring new grounds while maintaining the overall intrigue. The tracks featuring vocals are courtesy of the Icelander Disa, who has been in Trentemøller's fold since the Memoria tour.
The opening track with nylon strings of Dreamweaver and the album's first single, "A Different Light," contains many trademarks of Trentemøller: exploration of dichotomies, musical shadow play, Nordic chill, and warm waves. It opens the door to "Nightfall," steady and hypnotic, with its wireless voice, melancholic guitars, and the freshness of the desert early in the morning. The third track of the opening trio, "Dreamweavers," finds its place with a soft, percussive trot, which begins after what seems like a shortwave radio sweep in search of the right chords, ultimately composing a weightless voice. Ostensibly keeping a ruminative pace with the two previous tracks, the song and, by extension, the album soon opens up as the rest of the elements come together with a grand and luxurious flourish.
