"A Distant Shore" is a beloved indie classic. Freshly remastered at Abbey Road Studios with new sleeve notes written by Tracey, this 2024 edition is available on vinyl and CD, a beautifully presented reminder of the album's elemental beauty. Successfully released on Cherry Red in September 1982, Tracey's debut solo album is filled with engaging, melodic tracks and heartfelt lyrics delivered by her distinctive warm voice. Recorded for just £138 in a studio in a garden shed while she was a 19-year-old first-year student at the University of Hull, it is an astonishing showcase of Tracey's songwriting talent, stripped down to voice and semi-acoustic guitar. The LP was released during a fertile period early in her career, when she was also playing with the band The Marine Girls and was about to embark on a lifelong musical and personal partnership with Ben Watt in Everything But The Girl. Its austere minimalism set it apart, and the album remained in the independent charts for many months. To this day, "A Distant Shore" remains one of our greatest achievements at Cherry Red Records. Fully supported by the artist, "A Distant Shore" is now represented with the addition of five previously unreleased demo recordings, selected by Tracey from her tape archives. "Lucky Day" was recorded during the same session as the album but was never included; the other four tracks here were recorded in a later session but were then set aside, to be re-recorded a little later with EBTG for their debut album, Eden.
