In 1998, Tortoise's third studio album, TNT, came into the world. After being out of print for much of the last decade, TNT is now available again on vinyl. Pressed on high-quality vinyl, the two green records are packaged in a deluxe sleeve, fully reproducing the original artwork and including an MP3 download coupon (for the first time). TNT is Tortoise's third album. It was written and recorded over a 10-month period in 1997. This longer-than-usual writing and production schedule was deliberately undertaken by the band in the hope of creating an expansive, diverse, and thematically coherent album. TNT builds on the stripped-down instrumental framework of the band's self-titled debut album, as well as the melodic adventures of the following full album, Millions Now Living Will Never Die. Furthermore, Tortoise's interest in the possibilities offered by remixing tracks is realized in the very production of TNT; individual elements, sections, or sometimes entire compositions mutate within the album's shifting framework. These techniques were appropriately realized thanks, among other things, to the use of non-linear digital recording and editing methods, the first example of this type of work for the band.
