After being part of the Traveling Wilburys with his friends Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Roy Orbison, and Jeff Lynne (who produced their albums, still unavailable on CD…), Tom Petty recorded the excellent Full Moon Fever solo with the latter. In light of the success of the venture (triple platinum), he gathered his loyal Heartbreakers and recorded this album with the same producer, who applied that characteristic 'classic rock' sound (layered guitars and keyboards, bright sounds), turning everything he touches into gold (the Beatles, together and separately, ELO, Roy Orbison, Roger McGuinn, etc.), perfectly highlighted on the excellent "Learning to Fly" and "Into The Great Wide Open" (it sounds like George Harrison!). Fifteen years after his debut, Tom Petty enters the pantheon of rock.
