ORCHESTRA OF STORIES

Description

After four years away, acclaimed singer-songwriter Tom Hickox announces the release of his new album “The Orchestra of Stories” on his label Family Tree Records. Written and produced by Tom, the album was largely recorded with the revered Chineke! Orchestra, the first majority-black and ethnically diverse orchestra in Europe. The album delivers on its promise: a rich mosaic of human stories, staged with grand ambition and extreme precision. Throughout the album, Tom elevates his gift for storytelling with a cinematic array of songs brimming with drama and poignancy. From “The Clairvoyant” - a mariachi-flavoured tale of a widower deceived by a fraudulent medium - to “The Failed Assassination of Fidel Castro”, which reimagines a doomed CIA mission as a love story, Hickox’s talent for unearthing and reimagining stories from a wide range of sources flourishes here, each song revealing a universal truth that resonates long after the final note has sounded. Tom Hickox first came to prominence in 2014 with his debut album “War, Peace and Diplomacy” (Fierce Panda), followed in 2017 by the resounding success of “Monsters In The Deep”, praised by publications such as The Sunday Times (“literary chamber pop that is at once haunting, poetic and complex”), MOJO (“one to watch”, 4 stars) and Louder Than War (“a captivating and accomplished album”). He appeared on “Later with Jools Holland” and his song “The Lisbon Maru” was recently featured in an award-winning documentary.
