Since their formation in 2000, toe has synthesized everything from pop, post- and math-rock, jazz, R&B, and electronic music into one of the most distinctive sounds in rock music. Their debut album, the book on my idle plot on a wave of anxiety (2005), left an undeniable mark across the fragmented worlds of instrumental and experimental music, exploding the principles of post-rock with writing and performances that channel the intensity of hardcore. NOW I SEE THE LIGHT (2024), toe's fourth full-length album, serves as a bridge between the experimental restraint of their later works and the explosive abandon of their earlier productions. From the very first tracks, toe's serpentine passages balance against meditative repetition. On "LONELINESS WILL SHINE," "??????·?????," and "NOW I SEE THE LIGHT," Hirokazu resumes his role as a part-time vocalist, further breaking away from the instrumental work that previously defined them. Overall, NOW I SEE THE LIGHT brings the journey full circle between the beginning and the end of toe, giving them a blank slate for their new perspective.
