Tino Rossi (1907-1983) was the quintessential crooner, hailed as "the most famous Corsican since Napoleon," and he is still counted among the most famous French artists of all time, with the title Vieni, vieni being his first major international success.
The romantic tenor started as a Corsican troubadour singing in French cabarets and on the radio. But it was at the beginning of his film career that he became one of the country's idols.
Marinella, Mia piccolina, and Paris, voici Paris are part of his many hit songs, to which we can add the triumph of Petit Papa Noël, which has become France's national Christmas anthem.
Rossi was also remarkable in opera (a critic compared him to Gigli!), and his lyrical tenor is particularly melodious in the arias from the king of Ys, Manon, and the pearl fishers.
