'Shadow Theater' is the fifth album by Armenian pianist and composer Tigran Hamasyan and his second with Verve, released in 2013.
Referencing an ancestral art form from his country, Hamasyan immerses the listener in an imaginary and dreamlike world that owes as much to Tim Burton as it does to the tradition of shadow theater. The album is filled with dozens of figures inhabiting the pianist's mind, from Meshuggah's labyrinthine metal to Chick Corea's fusion jazz, from Madlib to Sigur Rós, and including Steve Reich. With this album, Hamasyan explores both electronic and sonic avenues and establishes himself as a dazzling songwriter with a delicate vocal timbre.
This edition is the first international reissue on 140-gram vinyl, presented in a gatefold sleeve.
