How did the Canadian heavy metal band 3 Inches of Blood manage to increase the intensity even further after their 2004 masterpiece Advance and Vanquish? Well, by enlisting Slipknot's drummer, Jordy Jordison, to produce their next album, and by adding a new instrumental lineup featuring former Allfather lead guitarist Justin Hagberg and former Walls of Jericho drummer Alexei Rodriguez to the band's unique assault, which includes Cam Pipes on "clean" vocals and Jamie Hooper on "scream" vocals. The result was Fire Up the Blades in 2007, which, as Hooper said, was "a faster and more intense version of us." This means that albums don't get faster and more intense than this; the epic lyrics being good enough to have been written by George R.R. Martin from Game of Thrones is just a bonus. Speaking of bonuses, for the vinyl debut of Fire Up the Blades (and after consulting the band), we raised the stakes with a 2 LP release featuring an entire side of additional tracks that were released around the same time as the album, including their cover of Lucifer's Friend's song "In the Time of Job When Mammon Was a Yippie."
