SOUNDS OF JIMI (vinyl)

Description

Featuring: ERIK TRUFFAZ, CÉLIA KAMENI, HUGH COLTMAN, CAMILLE BAZBAZ.To replay Hendrix without plagiarizing, to rewrite and reinvent legendary tracks without distorting them – this was the challenge Thomas Naïm set himself in 2020, the year marking 50 years since the passing of the most iconic of Guitar Heroes. With unconcealed excitement and curiosity, he brought his trio, with whom he has collaborated for years, to confront the master's compositions. The initial idea was not to cover the songs as they were, as that would have lacked real artistic interest, but to find a more personal aesthetic for each track, and, with the exception of two or three sung pieces, to favor an instrumental approach. The result is a personal interpretation of selected and sometimes lesser-known pieces, and a desire to revisit Jimi Hendrix's work in a new way."THOMAS NAÏM IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST GUITAR STYLISTS MADE IN FRANCE." --- JAZZ NEWS ---."Today marks 50 years since guitarist and singer Jimi Hendrix joined the infamous '27 Club.' It was in London, on September 18, 1970. Since then, the jazz world continues to view him with a mix of admiration and rejection. We're discussing it on Matins Jazz with guitarist Thomas Naïm, who is dedicating his upcoming album 'Sounds Of Jimi' (out November 13) to him." --- TSF JAZZ ---."The story begins in the early 90s when, as an apprentice guitarist, Thomas Naïm first heard Purple Haze, the opening track of a detective film directed by James Glickenhaus. He would never forget that shock and sensation. Throughout his adolescence, Thomas Naïm listened to and, above all, played his idol's music. It was in 2020 that Thomas Naïm, now a professional guitarist, invited Raphaël Chassin on drums and Marcello Giuliani on bass to tackle a tribute album." --- FRANCE BLEU ---.
